Berlin Missions Trip Forms
Hi Everyone!
Following our meeting last night, below you will find the two documents you'll need if you are thinking about coming to Berlin in March.
The first document is the full application. It is meant to be printed double sided, so there are some blank pages in it.
The second document is just the reference forms. If you have someone who is not local, or who you don't see regularly who will be a reference, you can send them that link, and have them send it into me directly!
A reminder to have all forms in my box or e-mailed to me by October 16th, next Sunday.
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to give me a call or send me an e-mail.
interCHANGE: Harvest
This Sunday, we're going to talk about the changing meaning of harvest. We've gone from a society that was built around agriculture, to a more modern, consumerist culture, where the only thing marking 'harvest time' is the changing of the seasons. We're going to get together all different generations of Bakerview to talk about how 'harvest' is still real to us today, and share some of our experiences from the past!
I'd love to have you there, youth, parents and grandparents alike. We'll have snacks available, so please let me know if you plan on being there! Our morning will get started at 10 AM in the Fireside room (behind the Sanctuary).
MCC Sale and start of the new year!
Hope your summers are wrapping up (AHHHHHHH) nicely. Many fun memories made, and maybe a few of them even at youth! We had a blast heading down to Wild Waves on Wednesday, and if you missed out, there is always next year!
Next week I'm getting married, and once again, you are all invited if you want to come! Just let me know, and I can pass along the details. Love to have you there!
I have a few items to take care of before then, though, and you can help me! The first on is that while I'm away, the MCC Sale is happening. Many of you have participated in years past, and it is always a ton of fun! Plus, you're helping raise money for an organization that helps people all over the world each and every day. We need 15 people who are willing to come out and help serve sausages on a bun. Each shift is a little over an hour and a half, and afterwards you're free to wander around the Sale and see what else is out there! Here are some of the details:
Friday, September 9th
5 PM - 9 PM
You can sign up for a 'shift' by putting your name in the spreadsheet online. Or, if you would rather not do that, just e-mail me what time you would like to work. We have shifts from 4:45-6:00, 5:45-7:30, or 7:15-9:00. And for the leaders, there is always space around the BBQ to do some grilling, so let me know if you want to come help with that as well! You can click here to sign up. Please do it sooner rather than later so I know it's all taken care of before I'm gone!
Last but not least... YOUTH IS STARTING SOON! We're getting under way September 14th and 15th, so make sure you mark your calendars. It's going to be an awesome year!
I miss you guys, and I'm looking forward to youth starting up again soon. Have an awesome rest of the summer!
Summer Events
Summer is upon us! Youth has now wrapped up for the 2010-2011 school year .
That means summer events are coming! We have three major events planned through the summer, and we'll be doing some smaller events as well. A lunch at Red Robin's, anyone? An afternoon throwing around a frisbee? What other ideas might you want to try out for the summer?
The primary form of sign-up is via our online forms. It means you can sign up, and drop off the payment whenever is convenient for you! If you attended (or your youth attended) a youth event in this past year, then they have an account. If you can't seem to find them, send me an e-mail, and I'll make sure everything is hunky-dory. If you really don't want to sign up online, then I've attached forms for you to fill out as well.

Interchange
Hello Parents.
I'm sad that I neglect this section of the youth blog. I do mean that! However, I wanted to make you aware of our Learning Centre hour this Sunday.
As you may (or may not...) know, we've gone through the Psalms, Daniel and James chapter by chapter with the youth. It's been a great year! Pastor Ray and I have been discussing ways to help make our Learning Centre hours more beneficial to the adults, as well as to help bridge the generation gap.
For those of you who were present back in January/February, we had a little experiment around tables in the Gym, and it went swimmingly. So we're going to try something else out this Sunday.
Inter-Change. We'll be again sitting around tables, this time in room 300, and follow a more small-groupish feel around the tables as we study through Joshua. The goal is to experiment with multi-generational bible classes, that will appeal to all age groups.
Your presence is important! We'd love for you to join us this Sunday from 10-11 in Room 300. All I ask is that you RSVP to me by Thursday so we can make sure to have enough chairs and food available!
Hope to see you there!
SHINE
Just a reminder that SHINE registrations are due this week. SHINE is a retreat up at Camp Stillwood, where you're guaranteed a great time with friends and plenty of fun activities. They allow us full run of their camp, so the climbing wall, gym, hot tub, dirt boarding and more are all available!
The cost for the weekend is $115, and that gets you 5 meals, 2 snacks, a t-shirt and access to the whole camp. There will be a speaker that will challenge your faith, plenty of time to spend with your friends, and laughter! If money is one of the deciding factors, give me a call and we can talk about options. I don't want money to be the reason someone cannot come.
I'm sending in the registration form on Thursday, so I hope to hear from you before then. From past experience, they take registrations until the camp is full up, so you may be able to get in after, but there are no guarantees! If you have lost or didn't get a registration form, you can grab one here.
Let me know if you have any questions
Spring Break Events
Spring break is nearly upon us, and I know many of you will be travelling near and far with your families. It's a good time to get away and spend time with your family. Some of you will be staying around Abbotsford, however, and so I have a few events planned for the afternoons of the 21-24th!
All events are sign-up only. We'll be taking the Van to each of the events, unless there is a 8+ waiting list, then I'll open it up to more and we'll take the bus. To sign up, you follow the link, and you can enter in your e-mail address, and your name should come up. It will then e-mail you a unique code which you enter, and you'll be registered! If you have any issues, give me a call and I'll take a look at it. It probably means I have a different e-mail for you.
Friday the 18th - Heat Game and the cost is FREE! We've been donated 40 tickets for the Heat game on Friday night. We'll meet at the church for 6:15 and be back by 9:30. All you ne ed to do is sign-up to reserve your spot! http://bit.ly/ebgVkx
Monday the 21st - Lasertag! $9.25 for two games. We'll leave the church at 1 and be back by 4. Signup at http://bit.ly/fjTuM1
Tuesday the 22nd - TBC GoKarts $24 for two races. We'll leave the church at 11:30 and grab some food for the road. Be back by 4 PM. Signup at http://bit.ly/fAkZHl
Wednesday the 23rd - Lunch together at Red Robin's! I can pick you up in the Van or we can meet there together! Whatever you order is what you pay for. Sign-up is so that I can let the restaurant know numbers! Signup at http://bit.ly/gOog9q
Thursday the 24th - We're going on a hike! After all that time eating... let's get out for some fresh air! There's plenty of great places right around Abbotsford to see some incredible things. Bring a camera and some water. Signup at http://bit.ly/h6FPQG
Of course, we'll be doing some regular youth things as well! Learning centres will continue on Sunday mornings, and we'll have a movie night on the 16th, and a games night on the 31st!
Let me know if you have any questions!
Parents Meeting
Hello Parents!
Just a reminder that we're getting together tonight at 7 PM in the fireside room (behind the sanctuary) tonight! We're going to review the past few months, talk about what's coming in the rest of the year, and a little bit of the philosophy change that we're starting to implement in youth ministry.
Also, it's a great time to ask any questions you might have!
I'm bringing Tim Horton's and coffee! See you there!
Young people crave self-esteem more than sex
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41022931/ns/health-behavior/
If there's one problem that all parents face, it's how to raise their children so that once they are out from under your roof, they will weather the forces of the world and still stand strong in their faith.
MSNBC has a report on some interesting (and kind of self-explanatory) research on how youth and young adults crave acceptance and self-esteem more than sex or other risky behaviour. They are a generation that craves attention, and we find a fine balance between feeding that and teaching them that the world is not all about them.
More than anything you could do, however, teach your kids that they are loved and accepted. Give them a safe place they can run to when things aren't going well, and know that they will always find someone who loves them and will back them. That legacy will carry on for years after they have left your house.
Young Canadians Increasingly Shunning Religious Institutions
As something for you think about, I wanted to provide you a link to an ongoing article series the Globe and Mail is currently writing. They have some interesting insights into the change of youth and young adult culture within Canada that will have wide sweeping effects on Church and Youth Ministry in the next 5-10 years. We're already seeing the effects these things now.
You can find the article here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/young-canadians-increasingly-shunning-religious-institutions/article1837678/
