Parents Meeting Recap

Hello Parents!

I'm sorry that I have neglected this section. I'm going to work on that! I promise.

I wanted to put up some of the feedback I recieved last night for those of you that weren't able to join us. It was a good discussion with the 12 or so parents that were able to make it out.

First on the agenda was Spring youth retreats, Surge and Shine. This past year the cost was 120 and 130, respectively. I heard from quite a few parents that it was too expensive when it was that close to summer and the camp programs. So we talked it through, but the general consensus was that it's still a valuable part of the youth calendar. I'll make an effort this year to get the information and dates/prices out to you as early as possible so you can budget for it.

Afterwards we went over an overview of the past month of youth retreats. We had some good discussions about where we're going in the future, and one piece of feedback I got from that was a desire for more small groups. The suggestion was offered that we have two events each month, one foundations, and one small group night. I'm a fan, and you'll see us move towards that more as we go through the year.

Lastly, the idea of having youth lead a Sunday morning service was raised, and it's something I"ll pursue further from my end.

As always, if you have any comments or suggestions, there's no need to wait for a meeting to say something. Feel free to get a hold of me by e-mail, phone, or come and visit. I'd love to hear what's going on at home and school with your youth!

Photo Scavenger Hunt

How many crazy, zany photo's can you take in an evening? What if you have to find something specific?

We're going to find out Thursday night. We're meeting at the church at 6:30 and then heading out from here around Abbotsford for a full on Scavenger hunt! I'm looking forward to seeing what you're all going to come back with.

See you Thursday!

Junior Youth Retreat

It's that time of the year again! We're going away for a weekend of fun and growth! This year we're heading to the beautiful Camp Squeah.

You'll have your choice of a few options on Saturday... Archery, Climbing Wall, Canoeing, Hiking, Volleyball, Pumpkin Carving amongst some others. Space will likely be limited, so sign up sheets will go up Friday night for you!

Make sure you bring with you:

Bible, Pen, Paper
Sleeping Bag, Pillow, Toothbrush, Towel, Shampoo, etc.
Clothing for the weather (We'll be outside, so if it's raining...)

Just a reminder that while you can bring games (Dutch Blitz, board games, etc) don't bring your iPod's! Camera's are perfectly ok though!

Be at the church for 5:45, and come fed! We'll have nacho's that night, but it won't be until later. See you Friday!

Corn Maze

It's October. It's almost time for youth retreats. I'm full of energy. Random short sentence.

Just checking if you're awake! :)

Tonight, the junior's and the seniors are heading to the Corn Maze in Chilliwack. There will be running, jumping, yelling and generally getting lost. You can pretend you're in the movie Labyrinth (look it up), or that you're finding you're way home. Whatever your fancy, it's going to be a blast!

Cost is $10, and we're leaving the church at 6:45 PM SHARP so make sure you're here at 6:30! :) See you tonight!

Gleaners!

We're heading to the Gleaners! :)

They are an organization that takes food that otherwise couldn't be used, and makes it useful. But I'll let them explain that to you best! From their website:

In short, we receive produce, chop, slice and dice, dry and mix, and then release our finished product into the hands of reliable, reputable distribution partners.

Fresh and frozen produce is picked up by our volunteer drivers on a daily basis. The volunteer staff next transform this produce into a cut-up, ready-for-the-dryer mix that will spend anywhere from 8 to 10 hours in an industrial-size drying unit.  The dried product is then scraped and barreled in anticipation of a future “mixing” date.

Once we have an entire season’s worth of dried items for our soup mix, the mixing lines are set up and several of the winter months are devoted to transforming individual barrels of vegetables into a tasty just-add-water soup mix.

In this same time period, we also complete the bagging of dried apple chips.

Youth starts at 6:30. Make sure you wear closed toed shoes. :)

Junior Youth Retreat Registration

That time of the year is here again! Retreats!

There is a change to the location of where we're going this year. Camp Squeah will be hosting our group on October 22-24th. I believe this will offer us the opportunity for growth, as well as way more flexibility in activities and sessions. Squeah is a fantastic camp located just north of Hope, BC.

The cost for the retreat this year is $75.

I'm sure many of us can attest to the power that camps and retreats have had in our own journeys of faith. I don't expect this year to be any different! This year if your Junior Higher brings a friend that is not a regular attender at a church, then your youth will receive $10 off on their registration.

More details are available in the registration form! You can download it here: Jr Retreat Registration 2010
