Foundations
It's one of those beautiful things about the Bible. We can read it thousands of years after the words were written, and it still speaks to our lives. It's living, active, and relevant.
This Wednesday night, at 6:30PM, come on out to the church for a few hours of looking into what the Word has to say to us this week. No doubt it will be awesome.
Family dinner gets started at 5:30!
See you all there.
Olympics Night!
Dude, we're rocking the Olympics! God is rocking it too! Who knew we could have 15 degree weather AND the WINTER Olympics at the same time! That's wild!
We're going to bring some of the magic to our very own Bakerview youth group... this Thursday! The YLT have been working hard over the past month to get this event ready for you, and I can say I'm excited! The night will feature:
Hockey
Bobsledding
Curling
Biathalon
You too can be an Olympic athlete! Come earn your gold medal, and bring some friends with you! Cost for the night is $2, and things get started at 6:30PM.
Movie Night!
It's been a busy few weeks! Castle Fun Park and all sorts of fun. Now it's time to lay back a bit and relax. What better way to do that then make some popcorn, drink some pop and watch a good movie!?
That's what we're doing tomorrow! 6:30 at the church, come prepared to have a blast. Rumour has it Barbara will be teaching us.
Family dinner is on at 5:30!

Media. How does it affect us?
How much time do we spend with earbuds blaring music into our ears? What does that music say to us? What kind of movies do we watch? What sort of messages are we watching? How much of this happens without us even realizing it?
Come on out Thursday Night for a discussion surrounding the music we listen to and the messages that it sends. Bring your Bible's with you as well, because we're going to be comparing what the Bible has to say compared to what we're taking in each and every day.
6:30 PM at the church, bring a toonie for a Timmy's run.
A Helpful Resource
I know one of the struggles of the modern age is trying to keep up with your kids in regards to the media they are consuming. Every week there are new movies, music, games, etc. that enter their realm. Often before you even know it, because advertisers are keying in on our youth.
One site that will hopefully give you some information to make some informed choices is Plugged In. Focus on the Family goes through current movies, music, games, TV shows, etc. and gives you an in-depth look into their content and possible flags.
We encourage the kids to be thinking about what they listen to and allow in through their eyes. Whatever goes in will inevitably come out, we say. Hopefully this will be a tool you can use to have informed talks with your kids about what they are watching and listening to.

Castle Fun Park!
Is it possible to have more fun than an amusement park? I think not! That's why this week, we're heading over to Castle Fun Park for the evening! There will be mini-golfing, bumper cars and time on the arcade machines!
I grew up playing mini-golf, which is a widely accepted theory into why I never grew over 6 feet tall. Just sayin. So you have your work cut out for you if you think you can beat the youth pastor in mini-golf!
Bus leaves at 6:15 PM on Wednesday night! So be here, or be square!
Cost for the night is $15!
Abstinence Programs Show Merit
Abstinence ed, minus the morals, may work
A new study has just come out saying that abstinence programs may work in the US, contrary to prior evidence. The difference in this study is stripping the teaching of an religious or moral implications and instead appealed to the kids on a more logical level.
It makes you wonder what they've been teaching up until now.
They sat a group of 12 year olds down and had them write out the pro's and con's of having sex at their age. The kids came up with a long list of con's and a shorter list of pro's. The kids then made their own choice to wait and abstain.
Appealing to religious or moral issues can help an issue, but it's soft sand to build on. Helping the kids understand the benefits of why it's important to wait is vital, otherwise the 'fun' and pull of the moment will win out.
Menno-Nite!

It's the event you never knew you wanted. We're going back to our roots. Waaaaaaaay back to our roots. So far back you'll wish you were in the future.

There will be segregation of the sexes, there will be dancing (of the mennonite variety), there will be trivia, and a variety of other wild, crazy, intensely traditional things.

Sound interesting? It should!
Bring your suspenders, your dresses and your hair in buns, and be prepared to have a hard church pew good time!
6:30 PM at the church on Wednesday, family dinner starts at 5:30 in the gym!
Hockey Night in Chilliwack
Guess what? We're going two weeks without having youth on Thursdays. What a wrench in your plans! Oh well, at least there are compelling reasons as to WHY we're switching around the night.
Tuesday night this week, we're heading out to Chilliwack to watch the Bruins lay a beatdown on Lethbridge. Don't worry, just because I'm from Alberta doesn't mean I'll cheer for Lethbridge. I save that anger for the Canucks.
Be at the church for 6:00 tomorrow! The bus rolls out of the parking lot at 6:30 for a party. If you want to buy concessions, bring some money along.
